I called the hospital help line yesterday, they called me back a little time later - had an appointment for today!
Been given steriod injection to take the edge off (only 3 weeks back on methtrix).
Explained to the nurse of where ra was hurting the most - one of my knees. She was so sweet and booked me in for xrays on hands/feet/knee.

This was done straight away!
Amazing service hey, I'm so happy.

She will call me in two weeks if the xray has brought anything up following an xray meeting the rheumy guys have.

Can anyone help? Nurse said I might have oestio in my knee - is this common?

I asked about exercise, I wanted to do something different than aqua aerobics - well the nurse said the subject of exercise has changed and not just low impact but they say high impact but not over the top or it will fatigue you out.

Before ra I did step class - any ra person do this?
Does anyone do aeorobic classes?

I'm off to sit in the sun to top up on my vit d, and get a tan on my poorly foot!!

hi Jane,

i have had Osteo in both my knee's for a good few years now .. am now down to bone on bone, but i can still walk short distances and around the house without problem. in fact it's the Osteo that causes me the most discomfort than my RA now that's under control.

i blame the excess weight i used to carry ( was a good few stone overweight ) but mananged to lose this weight and kept it off for 4 years now.

but i really think Osteo is so common and it's the luck of the draw whether you get it.

i personally couldn't do any exercise where my knee's are concerned now, and am happy that i can continue to move the way i do.

the X Ray will tell them if you have it or not, my Consultant calls it wear and tear.

hi jane, i have lost 2 stone, i do aqua zumba once a week now used to be twice but i bike ride if upto it and walk my dog,i try and do as much as possible,i do have ra and osteo now in my neck and shoulders so when i do any excerise i do stop my arm/leg movements before any one else as it hurt so much if i try to keep up,i personally would do very gentle at the moment till you get the results and then ask how much they suggest you try but then you will find how far you can push yourself but do it at a slower pace,i used to race all the time doing things only now i take my time that way i can pace and still move the next day,have fun,good luck,dorothy

Hi Jane - so pleased that you had a good result with the steroid jab. I too have osteo in my knees - especially my left from an old skiing injury. I lost weight - 2 half stone - and am now at a comfortable target weight for past 6moths and that helps a lot.

Not currently doing much exercise (apart from tai chi) as I don't have confidence, but I see the physio soon and will take her advice.

Sad Huh hello everyone.
Following on xrays at top of this subject, rheumy nurse called this morning to say hand,feet, knee joints not looking good.
They will refer me to orthp surgeon for knee surgery.
Worrying time........
I'm going back to work end of week - glad I am because this next (2nd) bout of time off will see me on an action plan once I return after knee surgery.

Don't feel 100% but, I'd be going back on recoup hours of 4 a day. No wonder I'm still with walking sticks and pained out!

Nurse will see me in 2-3 months, if methtrix not kicked in, go on something else (a lot to take on board in conversation with her) - if the next treatment fails, anti tnf (this is new lingo for me)....something about injections?

I thought turning 40 would be just another year!

I blame myself because I wanted to try for a baby and came of methtrix (under guidence of consultant) not me refusing to take medication.......

Good to know your rheumy team are looking after you so well, makes such a difference if you know you are having good care.

Hope you don t have to wait too long to see your knee man ! and you cope ok at work, try not to over do it, easier said than done of course !

Hi Jane - good luck going back to work and do try to pace yourself as much as possible. Can you get help at home with the housework/childcare and so on? I hope that having the buzz of people around you at work is uplifting rather than draining and keep your lovely sense of humour!!
